Tuesday  July 3d

A strong W.N.W. wind Cloudy and fog first part. At 8 P.M. broke loose and drifted ashore, hauled off and turned Around, moored to the beach. Painting. 

Blacksmithing Stopped putting the irons on George Starr band Michael Mckracken

Wednesday  July 4th

Light breeze from the E. Clear. Ice breaking up in the Bay. Celebrated by setting the flags, firing National Salute, Running, Sack, wheelbarrow and 3 legged races Jumping matches tug of war. Base Ball and Obstruction race. A great time.

Thursday July  5                

 A strong W.N.W. till 12. m then die[s?] away to a light breeze. Cloudy and   raining in afternoon. Painting, making weather cloths &c.Ships all

 broke loose and lying at anchor.

Friday  July 6th

A moderate gale from the W.N.W. with heavy snow and rain. first part Latter part gradually hauled to the E. and died away to a light breeze. Cloudy Ice went out of outer Bay and jammed up on the sandspit about 15 ft high At work getting ready for seas.Bent the Cables.

Saturday  July 7th

A moderate gale from the W.N.W. which died away to a calm the latter part. Cloudy and raining lightly after 4 P.M. Finished Painting, making buckets.Odd jobs. Started fires about 7 A.M. [Quite?] a jam of ice in the Cove. Vessels all dragged. 2 1/2 feet of [wat-] from our waist to the bow on the Port Side at low tide.

Sunday  July 8th

Calm with a light air from the S. latter part Clear. Took the boats on board Balaena tried to butt out but failed.

Monday  July 9th  1894

A moderate gale from the W.N.W. Cloudy and raining heavily. Count de Salville and Mr. Russell arrived from Fort Mcpherson. Brought a mail, first Letters from home for 13 months.  arrived

Tuesday  July 10th

Light breeze from the N.E. first part. Latter part a light breeze from the W.N.W. Cloudy with snow and rain. Putting ratlines on fore top  gallant  Rigging. Making buckets, put more sails over the Pioneer House.

Wednesday  July 11th

 Out of Winter quarters Light and variable airs. Got under way at 9:30 a.m.  Bucked ice and got into open water at 12.20 a.m. Anchored and laid till  2.30 then started for King Point arrived about 9 P.M. laid till 11 P.M. then started for the Islands. Steaming and carrying fore and aft sails aft 2 P.M. Sighted Garry Island about 3 P.M. Stmr Narwahl first vessel out. Took 60 bbls of water.

Thursday  July 12

Light breeze from the E.N.E. Cloudy with light rain squalls. Bent main topmast staysail Had to  fleet a few times on account of ice. At anchor most of the day. went ashore on Pelly Island Had six Indians and Boatsteerer All hand killed 12 deer I killed 2 deer. 38 deer

Friday  July 13th

Light breeze varying from N. to N.E. Cloudy and spitting snow latter part  Had to move for ice twice.  Put up a fly on the main. Odd jobs. 2          fathom of water within ½ mile of East end of Pelly Island

Saturday  July 14

At anchor off East end of Pelly Is. Started in with a strong breeze from the N.W. but moderated latter part Cloudy. Ice backing to the N.E. slowly.

A moderate N.W. wind Cloudy and fog latter part. At anchor. had to fleet  Twice Temp. of water 45.

Monday  July 16th

Calm first part. Latter part Light E.N.E. breeze. Clear. Went hunting Saw  17 deer. got none. Returned with 3 fish 1 swan. At Anchor.

Tuesday  July 17

At Anchor till 7.30 P.M. then steamed up to Hooper Island and anchored at 9.30. Light breeze from the E.N.E. Clear.Capt Tilton went deer

hunting with  men, Returned with 6 deer.  2 ¼ fathoms water about 2 miles from Land. Bottom very even.

Wednesday  July 18th

 A moderate E.N.E. breeze. Cloudy At Anchor till 8.30 P.M. then got under way and followed the Ice to the South Carrying square sails mainsail

 and Gaffs. Steering between S. and S.W. Put up weather cloths in fore rigging.

Thursday  July 19th

A moderate E.N.E. breeze which gradally died to a light N.E. breeze latter Part Cloudy and clear. Put up weather cloths on poop deck. Cruising  

 under sail. Steamed from 5 A.M. to 7 P.M. and from 11.20 P.M. to 2 P.M. then tied up to the ice. Somewhere off Herschel Island.

Friday  July 20th

Light breeze from the N.E. Clear Laid to the ice till 10.30 A.M. then Steamed back to Hooper Island Anchoring at 10.20 PM. A canoe with 8 

 natives came aboard Set up fore topmast and topgallant Back

Saturday  July 21s

 A strong breeze from the E. Cloudy At Anchor till 2 P.M. then fleeted down to South End of Pelly Island and anchored at 4 P.M. Pack Ice moving

 quite lively Strong current. Capt. Tilton went deer hunting got none.

Sunday  July 22d

  A strong S.S.E. wind. Clear and Cloudy. Had to fleet for ice, twice Pack going Offshore. Saw a school of White Fis

 Monday  July 23d

A strong S.S.E. wind which gradually hauled to the S.W. and about 2 P.M. let go Cloudy and fog latter part. A strong S.S.E. wind which gradually

 Cloudy and fog latter part. Steaming most of the day. At 6.10 P.M. run on a shoal off Pullen Island. while ashore a cake of ice struck the rudder

 and split the stock, but fixed   so that we could handle the vessel, and started for Pauline Cove to Repair.  Hauled her off by Kedging and

backing the engines about 1 ½  hours on the bottom

Tuesday  July 24th

Light and variable airs. Clear Steaming till 7.45 P.M. then anchor in Pauline Cove. Unhung the rudder  found the stock split, and both pintles

broken. One native died since we left. 4 dogs carried off on the ice.

Wednesday  July 25th

Calm till 3 A.M. then a very strong breeze from the N.W. which died away again at 4.45 P.M. Clear and Cloudy. Finished repairing the rudder

 and got it hung at 5P.M. At anchor in Pauline Cove.

Thursday  July 26th

 Light and variable airs first part. Light E wind latter part. Clear, fog Cloudy and  Rain. Left Pauline Cove at 8.15 A.M. under steam. Steamed rest

 of the day. Passed Pullen Island at 12. Am Steering between E.N.E. and N.N.E. as the ice allowed.

Friday  July 27th

 Light and variable airs. Clear.  With a very heavy fog. Anchored at Warren Point at 8.45 P. M. Found all the vessels at anchor. Natives came

 off to the ships

Saturday  July 28th

Light westerly breeze which hauled To the N.N.W. the latter part. Cloudy with a heavy fog. At anchor off Warren Point.

Sunday  July 29th 

Light breeze varying between N. and N.N.E. Cloudy and heavy fog. Cleared up for about 2 hours. Steamed from 12.45 to 8.30 P.M. At anchor the

rest of the time.

Monday  July 30th

Light breeze from the E.N.E. Cloudy. Fog Cleared up at 2 m. Steamed up the Coast and anchored off E side of Russell Inlet at  4.30  A.M. Lots of ice off shore. I went ashore Killed 14 ducks and found about 3 doz Eggs chicked

Tuesday  July 31

Light breeze from the E. Clear. At anchor till 7 P.M. then steamed to Cape Dalhousie anchored at 11 and laid till 1 P.M. then steamed rest of the day Steering from N. to N.E. Capt. Tilton and Capt Leavitts went ash  for 4 deer, did not get them. Bailie Island in Sigh

Wednesday August 1

 Light breeze from the E. first part. Latter part hauled to the W. and increased to a strong breeze with a fog. Clear and Cloudy. Cruising off Bailie Island and Cape Bathurst under sail most of the day. Steamed about 5 hours. Lots of ice off shore and a very strong Easterly Current running. A canoe came of to us, got 20 Musk ox skins and 1 Polar Bear.

Thursday  Aug. 2d

A strong W.  wind which moderated latter part. Cloudy. With heavy fog first part. At anchor off Cape Bathhurst Had to fleet a number of times. A very strong Easterly Current Ice very heavy off shore. came from the westward with the wind. Stmr. Balaena arrived about 5 P.M.

Friday  Aug. 3d

Light westerly breeze which hauled to the N.N.W. Heavy fog first part Cloudy and Clea At anchor off Baillie Island.

Saturday  Aug. 4th

First whale seen  Light Easterly breeze Cloudy and Clear Tied up to the ice till 8 P.M. then steamed off shore and tied up again at 2.15 P.M. Lowered for whales at 2.50 P.M. Chased remainder of the day Saw a Polar Bear.

Sunday  Aug. 5th

Light and variable airs. Clear   Heavy fog latter part. Cruising under sail and steaming slowly till 6 A.M. then tied up to the ice. Shoaled the water in 7 hours from 80 to 70 fathoms Changed the breakfast and dinner times to 6 and 11.30 o’clock.

Monday  Aug. 6th

Light N.N.W. breeze first part. Latter part hauled to the N.E. Heavy fog til 1 A.M. Clear. Tied to the ice till 5.45 A.M. then cruised under sail and steam. Saw a large school of white fish bound. Steered between S.W. and W. carrying 134 fathoms of water. at 12 m hauled up to N. & N.E. and soon deepened it.

Tuesday  Aug. 7th

Light and variable airs Clear and Cloudy. Tied to the ice off Cape Bathurst.

Wednesday  Aug. 8th

Calm till 6 A.M. then a light breeze sprang up from the W. and increased to a strong breeze the latter part. Cloudy with fog and light rain squalls Tied to the ice till 1 P.M. then steamed to Baillie Island and made sail steering along the Coast, Eastward. Lowered for whales at 11 A.M. Chased till 3 A.M. Whales went into the Pack. Saw  a Polar Bear. At 5 P.M. off the High Cliffs

Thursday  Aug. 9th

A strong [W?]. wind which moderated and hauled to N.W. latter part. Cloudy and heavy fog most of the day. Anchored or tied to the ice till 7 P.M. then steamed to Bathurst and tied to the ice. Steamed off shore aways and tied up again at end of the day. Ocpallic came aboard Water  32.0

Friday  Aug 10th

Light N.W. wind with heavy fog till 2 P.M. then hauled to the N.N.E. and Cleared. Clear and Cloudy. Tied to the ice and anchored off Bathurst till 8.30 P.M. then left for the Westward under steam and sail. Steering about S.S.W. as the ice allowed. A lot of Copper River [Cogmulluce?] came aboard.

Saturday  Aug. 11th

Light and variable breezes. Cloudy. Steaming all day and carrying sail as the wind allowed. Steering between S.S.E. and S.W. Passed Cape Dalhousie about 10.30 A.M. Sighted Pullen Island at 12.30 P.M. Carrying 17 fathoms A.M. shoaled to 10 12 about 1, 5½ fathoms Trimmed coal bunkers.

Sunday  Aug. 12th

A moderate E.S.E. breeze, which hauled to E the latter part. Cloudy and Clear. Cruising under sail till 4 P.M. then began to steam. Made about a N.W. course from Pelly Island at 4 P.M. struck heavy ice. 40 fathoms. Yellow water out to the ice then turned to green

Monday Aug. 13TH

A strong breeze from the E.N.E Cloudy. fog first part and Clear. Cruising under sail Steamed about 5 hours. Lowered for whales chased till 10.30 A.M. came aboard lowered again at 11.30 A.M. I struck at 12.40. Whale sunk taking about 250 fathoms line. Tried to haul him up and hauled the iron out. Lowered again at 10.30 P.M. Mr. Mulligan struck at 12.35 Finished cutting at 5.40 P.M. Stove my boat quite badly by ice.

Tuesday  Aug. 14th

A strong E.N.E. wind. Cloudy and Clear. Cruising under sail. Steamed about 2 hours Filled the water tanks. Lowered for a whale but did not see him after lowering

Wednesday  Aug. 15th

A strong breeze from the E.N.E. Clear.  Cloudy and heavy fog latter part Cruising under sail. Steamed about 2 hours. Scraped and bundled a head of bone Weighed 2072 lbs.

Thursday  Aug. 16th

A strong E.N.E. wind. Heavy fog till 3 A.M. Cruising under sail Lowered for a whale at 12.30 P.M. I struck at 2.30 and finished Cutting at 4.50 P.M. 2.25, fathom line straight down

Friday  Aug. 17th

A moderate E.N.E. breeze Clear. Cruising under sail. Lowered for whale at 6.40 A.M. I struck at 7.55 and finished cutting at 11.50 A.M. Scraping Bone. Lowered again at 4 P.M. and chased till end of the day. Mr. Mulligan went on and darted at the first whale, but failed to fasten

Saturday  Aug 18th

A moderate breeze from the E.S.E. Cloudy. Cruising under sail. Lowered for a whale at 9 P.M. I struck at 10.20 and finished Cutting at 1.40 P.M. Mr. Mulligan darted at him first failed to fasten before I did.

Sunday  Aug 19th

Started in with a light E.S.E. breeze, died away to a calm and at 11 P.M. sprang up from the W and increased to a strong breeze. Heavy fog from 5 A.M. to 3 P.M. Steaming slowly from 8 A.M. til 10 P.M. then under sail. Sighted Herschel Island about  3 P.M.

Monday  Aug  20th

Gradual dying away of yesterdays  breeze. Latter part light and variable airs. Anchored at Pauline Cove at 6.20 A.M. Laid till 9 P.M. then steamed offshore Steering N. by W. Spoke Stmr. J. H. Freeman and Navarch

Tuesday August 21

A light breeze from the E.N.E. Cloudy and fog first part Stopped steaming at 9 a.m. Cruising under sail rest of the day. Lowered for a whale at 8.15 P.M. Did not see him in boats after lowering. Lowered again at 12.30 P.M. Mr. Mulligan struck at 1.20 and Finished cutting at 4 P.M.I got Bounty. I box Tobacco. Boatsteerer Killed the whale.

Wednesday  Aug. 22d

Light and variable airs. Fog, rain and snow squalls. Cloudy. Cruising under sail. Steamed about 2 hours. Scraped and bundled a head of bone.

Thursday  Aug. 23d

 Light W. wind which hauled to the N.W. the latter part. Heavy fog and snow squallsCruising under sail Started for Herschel Island at 3.15 P.M. under steam and sail. Steering about S. Gammed Stmr. Orca.

Friday Aug 24th

Light and variable airs. Cloudy. Arrived at Pauline Cove and anchored at 11.30 a.m.. Found Steamer Jeanie here Received small stores and mail. Filled the water tank.

Saturday Aug. 25th

Light and variable airs. Cloudy Lying alongside of Stmr Jeanie till 1 P.M. then hauled off and anchored. Took 200 sacks coal (Hard) from Stmr Balaena. Getting ready for sea.

Sunday Aug 26th

Calm and light airs first part. Moderate E.N.E breeze latter part. Cloudy, fog and rain At anchor till 4.15 a.m. then left  the cove under steam Steering N.N.E.Put up a new bearer for Boats.

Monday Aug 27t

A moderate breeze from the E.N.E. Increased to a strong breeze latter part. Cloudy with rain and hail squalls. Steaming till 10 P.M. then laid till 2 then made sail. Steering N.N.E. till 10. At 2 from S. to S.W. Spoke Stmr Thrasher.

Tuesday Aug. 28 

A very strong E.N.E. wind Cloudy. Cruising under sail. Spoke Stmr Beluga Lots of ice and very much scattered.

Wednesday Aug. 29

Started in with a strong E.N.E. wind which increased to a moderate gale. Cloudy. Lying under short sail began to steam at 1.30 P.M. Very rugged                                                   

Thursday Aug. 30th

A strong gale from the E.N.E.  which died away to a light breeze the latter part. Cloudy and rainy latter part. Lying under short sail and steaming till 7 P.M. then made sail as the weather improved.

Friday Aug. 31st

Light E.N.E. wind till 12 m. then  hauled to the N.W. Cloudy rain and fog. Under sail steering W.S.W. till 6.30 P.M.  then steamed into and anchored in  Pauline Cove at 8.30 P.M. Laid until 4.30 P.M. then started out Got a lot of tobacco &c. from Stmr Orca. Dr. Beaufre called on me Professionally.

Light breeze from the E.S.E. till the  latter part then hauled to the W.N.W. Cloudy, Heavy fog from 4.30 a.m. till 3 P.M. Cruising under sail Steamed about 5 hours steering E.N.E.

Tuesday Sept. 4

Light W.N.W. breeze which hauled  to the N.N.W. the latter part. Cloudy and heavy fog most of the day. Steamed till 10 a.m. then laid under sail till. 6.30 P.M. then steamed till 4.10 P.M. Steered E.N.E. till 10[?] P.M. then hauled off to N.N.W. Spoke the Stmr Navarch.

Wednesday Sept. 5th

Light N.N.E. breeze first part. Hauled to E.N.E. and increased to a moderate breeze the latter part. Cloudy with fog and snow squalls. Cruising under sail. Lowered for a whale at 8.15 P.M Chased till 1,45P.M. then Mr. Allen struck Finished Cutting at 5.P.M.Boatsteerer killed the whale.

Bounty 1 box tobacco.   Mine.

Thursday Sept. 6

A moderate breeze from the E and varying to E.N.E. Cloudy with fog and snow squalls.

Friday Sept 7

A light breeze varying from E.N.E. to N.N.E. Cloudy with snow and fog. Cruising under sail.

Filled the water tank. Saw a whale but Stmr Alexander was chasing it.

Saturday Sept. 8th

Light E.N.E. breeze. Cloudy with fog and snow till 2.30 P.M. Laying under sail till 11 a.m. then steamed till 2 P.M. steering N.E. then made sail again Spoke Stmrs J.H.Freeman and Navarch.

Sunday Sept.

 Light breeze varying from E. to E.N.E. Cloudy, heavy fog from 9 till 4 P.M. Cruising under sail. Lowered for a whale at 4.55 a.m. Only saw him once after lowering. Lowered again at 7.40 P.M. Mr. Allen struck at 9.30 and finished cutting at 11.50 P.M. Lowered again at 1.50 but did not see him after lowering.Lowered again and finished the day at 5.40 P.M.

Monday Sept. 10th

Light breeze varying from E.N.E. to N. Cloudy and heavy fog latter part. Cruising under sail. Lowered for whales at 4.35 a.m. Mr. Allen struck at 7.30 P.M. Finished cutting at 10 P.M.

Scraped outside slabs of 3 heads of bone

Tuesday Sept. 11t

Calm till 3 P.M. then a light breeze sprang up from E.S.E. Cloudy and heavy fog. Under sail.

Steamed about an hour. Spoke Stmr M.D.Hume. Put Mexican Tom in irons for 

drawing a knife and trying to stab Cris 

Wednesday Sept. 12th

Light and variable airs. Clear, cloudy and heavy fog after 12 m. Cruising under sail. Spoke Stmr Belvedere and put a mail on board. also Spoke Stmr Beluga and got 3 casks

Thursday Sept. 13th.

Calms and light but variable airs.Cloudy and heavy fog till 4 P.M.Steamed 11/2 hours off shore 

At anchor from 3.30 a.m. till 7 P.M. Then made sail. Spoke Stmr Alexander.

Friday Sept. 14th

Light and variable winds. Cloudy with snow squalls first part. Cruising under sail.

Saturday Sept. 15th

A strong breeze from the E.S.E. Cloudy and snow squalls Cruising under sail. Lowered for a whale at 1.20 P.M. Chased till end of the day.

Sunday Sept. 16th

Light and variable breezes. Cloudy with fog squalls Under sail till 6.30 P.M. then  began to steam. Steamed rest of day Steering from S. by E. to S.E.

Monday Sept 17th

Light breeze from the W.N.W. Cloudy with fog squalls. At anchor in Pauline Cove. Put blubber ashore and took aboard stores. 13 vessels at anchor.

Tuesday Sept 18th

Light airs varying from W. to N.W. Cloudy.   Bar. 29.6[6?]   Ther. 28 At anchor till 5.30 a.m.then started out under steam. Steamed about 3 hours. Steering N ½ E.

Wednesday Sept. 19th

A strong N.E. breeze which died away to a calm latter part. Cloudy. Cruising under sail and started for the Islands at 9 P.M. anchoring at 1 P.M. Sorting stores ashore.

Thursday Sept. 20th

Light and variable airs. Cloudy. At anchor Putting new floor in our warehouse and shingling the roof.

Friday Sept 21st

Calm and light Easterly breeze the latter part. Cloudy with heavy fog and clear. At Anchor Filled the water tank. Finished the floor in the warehouse and restowed the stores.

Saturday Sept. 22d

Light and variable airs. Clear with a heavy fog after 12 M. Left Pauline Cove at 8 a.m. under steam Steering N.E. Sighted Garry Island at 6.30 P.M.  then steered N.W. Gradually hauling 

to N.N.E. Stopped steaming at 4.30 P.M.

Sunday Sept. 23d

Light E.S.E breeze which increased to a strong breeze latter part Cloudy with a heavy fog till 11.30 P.M. Cruising under sail. Lowered for a whale at 2.30 P.M. Chased remainder of the day.

Whale going very fast.

Monday Sept. 24th

A strong E.S.E. breeze which increased to a fresh gale latter part. Cloudy fog and clear. Lying under sail till 5 a.m. then started for the Island anchoring under S.W. Sandspit at 2 P.M. Steered S.W. by S.

Tuesday Sept. 25th

A fresh gale from the E.S.E. Clear. At anchor of S.W. Sandspit.

Wednesday Sept. 26th

Gradually dying away of yesterdays gale first part. Latter part calms and light airs. Clear. At anchor. Got a deck load of wood.

Thursday Sept 27th

Calm first part, Latter part. Light breeze from the W.N.W. Clear. Steamed around and anchored in Pauline Cove at 8.15 a.m. Landed our wood also 3 Casks. Young ice made in the night.

Friday Sept. 28th

Light and variable breezes. Cloudy with snow squalls. At anchor. Took aboard 100 boxes Potatoes Scraping bone.

Saturday Sept. 29th

Calm first part. Latter part a strong S.E. wind. Clear. At anchor. Finished scraping bone also 

bundled it. Cutting sods. Unshipped the three forward boats davits.

Sunday Sept. 30th 

Calms and light airs. Clear. Young ice made during the night.

Monday October 1st

Calm and light airs. Cloudy with fog and snow squalls At anchor till 12.30 P.M. then steamed around to S.W. Sandspit. and tried to haul a Carcass  off the beach. Stmrs. M.D.Hume J.H.Freeman and Beluga assisting.

Tuesday Oct. 2d

Light S.E. wind first part. Latter part hauled to the W.N.W. Cloudy with fog and snow squalls

At anchor till 7 P.M. then started to pull the carcass again. Got it off and anchored in Pauline 

Cove at 3.10 P.M.

Wednesday Oct 3d

Light Westerly airs. Cloudy and snowing latter part. At anchor. Commenced to house the ship.

Hauled the carcass on the beach.

Thursday  Oct 5th

Light and variables airs Cloudy with fog and snow squalls. At work on the house. Sent Mr. Mogg after work for sled runners.

Friday Oct 5th

Calm first part, Latter part Light E.S.E. breeze which increased to a strong wind. Cloudy with heavy fog latter part. Steamed alongside of the J.H.Freeman and took about 50 bbls water.

Sodded the roof of the house At Anchor. Went gunning got about 30 ducks.

Saturday Oct 6th

Started in with a strong E.S.E. wind Which died away to a calm the latter part. Cloudy. Sodded the poop deck. also working on the house.

Sunday Oct 7th

Calm first part. Latter part a very strong W.N.W. wind. Cloudy and spitting snow. At Anchor.

Ice made during the night.

Monday Oct 8th

Light and variable airs. Cloudy. At anchor. Took the ballast out of the run. Unshipped spanker boom and odd jobs I went gunning. 9 ducks. Bay freezing over.

Wednesday Oct 10th

Light breeze varying from N.E. to N.N.W. Cloudy and snowing. Bay frozen over.

Friday Oct. 12th

Light breeze from the N.N.W. Cloudy with snow squalls. Steamed 11/2 hours getting a position.

Saturday Oct. 13th

Light and variable airs. Cloudy Housed the cockpit with sails. Cut the jaw bones out of whale carcas Making mats &c. I and Tom George killed 28 ducks.

Wednesday Oct. 17th

Light Easterly airs. Cloudy with fog squalls. Housed in forward end of the vessel with sails. Unbent cables and general clearing up. Outer Bay full of ice

Thursday Oct. 18th

Light N.W. breeze. Cloudy, fog and spitting snow. Put ship in position for the winter. Building bob sleds. Jag arrived with saddles of 9 deer. Filled water tank.

Friday Oct. 19th

Light N.W. breeze Cloudy with fog. At work on bob sleds. Sodded up Port side of house. I killed 5 ducks

Saturday Oct 20t

A moderate N.W. breeze. Cloudy. Ice went out in Outer Bay. Heeled the ship over and plugged the condenser discharge pipes. Blowed down the boiler. Sent Sapsuk after deer. Steamed 16 days and 18 hours this season.

 Calms and light airs. Clear. Cutting ice for water during the winter I got 4 ducks.

Took the list out of the ship. Got 46 ducks. Captain Tilton has birthday party in the Billiard Hall.

Friday Oct. 26th

A strong W.N.W. wind which hauled to the N. and gradually died away the latter part. Cloudy and snowing. Put up the Bath Room. All the stoves up and ready for winter.

Saturday Oct. 27th

A moderate E.S.E. breeze. Cloudy. Carted a load of ice. Put ice over the skylights. Unisuck arrived with 8 saddles of deer.

Sunday Oct. 28th

A light breeze from the E. Cloudy.

Monday Oct. 29th

A light S.E. breeze. Clear and cloudy. Finished the Bob sleds Cutting ice for winter use.

Open water off N. side of Island. Sapsuk arrived with 3 deer and 2 saddles.

Tuesday Oct. 30th

Light breeze from the W.N.W. Cloudy and snowing latter part. Carted a load of ice. Filled the water tank. Jags, Kitchictuck, Unisuck and Sapsuk started for deer.

Wednesday Oct. 31st

 Light westerly airs Clear and cloudy. Carted a load of ice. Making tarpaulins for sleds. 

Thursday Nov. 1st

Calm. Cloudy. Carted a load of ice. Put up a tank with pipes for heating water on the deck stove.

Light breeze from the W.N.W. Cloudy and snowing lightly. Carted 2 loads of ice.

A strong W.N.W. wind Cloudy, misty and clear Sapsuk arrived with 10 pieces of deer.

Tuesday Nov. 6th

A moderate S.E. breeze. Clear. Carted 2 loads of ice. Saw 1 duck. A man died at 6 a.m. on

board Schr. Rosario.

Wednesday Nov. 7th

Light airs and calms. Clear. Carted 2 loads of ice. I killed 8 seals. Seningetook 2. Saw a large quantity also about 50 ducks. Buried the man that died on Schnr. Rosario. Setting up the lathe.

Thursday Nov. 8th

Calms and light airs Clear. Carted 2 loads of ice. Setting up the Circulating Engine to run the Lathe. I got 2 seal Seningetook 2 and found 1 that I killed yesterday. O’Brien and Bismarck burnt by exploding powder.

Friday Nov. 9th

Light breeze from the S.E. first part. Latter part hauled to the W.N.W. and increased to a strong breeze. Clear cloudy and fog. Carted 2 loads of ice. Engine connected and lathe in running order. George Leigh quite badly bitten by a dog.

Saturday Nov. 10th

A strong W.N.W. wind which died away to a light breeze and hauled to the N.W. the latter part.

Got steam on the donkey boiler Pumped ship and run the Lathe.

Sunday Nov. 11th

Light N.W. breeze Cloudy, misty and snowing the 

latter part. 8 Inland Natives arrived brought mail from Fort Mcpherson.

of the J.H. Freeman. also had a minstrel show on the Beluga.

First part a moderate S.E. gale. Latter part light N.W. wind. Clear cloudy and snowing.

Saturday December. 1st

Calms and light Easterly airs. Clear. Carted a load of ice. Amputated six fingers and three toes of a man on Stmr. Thrasher Captain Tilton Surgeon myself Anesthetic Expert. Used chloroform and had him under the influence 53 minutes. Thought he would die for a few minutes used Hartshone and ice water to revive him. Tucaloona’s child died on the sandspit this morning.
